Security experts say there is no quick fix for BadUSB Hacks, Protect yourself with a Charge Only USB Adapter.

BadUSB, a critical security USB flaw identified earlier this year, This Flaw can be exploded by hackers using practically any USB device. Experts have published its code online recently and the issue is spreading online like wildfire.

BadUSB can turn a user’s keyboard, mouse, storage device, network device, game controller, or any other USB device into a cyber threat. The versatility and broad compatibility of the USB technology is also what made it vulnerable to hack attacks, with a USB device’s controller chips being very easily reprogrammable.

The ubiquitous USB drive has always been a potential threat to any computer that it plugs into, as malware can live on it just as easily as it can on a hard drive.

What makes the most recent news disconcerting is that an attack being called BadUSB is both undetectable and relatively unpatchable, meaning there is no easy way to fix it.

Traditional security scans such as an anti-virus program are completely useless against this threat because the infection is in the device itself, not the storage area. The threat was first revealed in August by Karsten Nohl at the Black Hat cybersecurity conference. Nohl demonstrated how BadUSB can corrupt any USB device with malware that is both deadly and undetectable.

This fix would require manufacturers to fundamentally change how they create devices, which likely will take a while.

LockedUSB Charge Only USB Adapter can help keep your devices protected, it allow charging of your devices at the maximum rated current while no data communication is exchanged, this mean that no possible hack can infect your host device (Laptop), and also no information can leave your mobile device.

Reversible USB Type-C connector finalized: Devices, cables, and adapters coming soon!!!!

he USB Promoter Group has announced that the greatest invention in the known universe — the reversible Type-C USB connector — is finally ready for mass production. The USB Implementers Forum will now take the Type-C spec and start building devices, cables, and adapters that support the new reversible connector. We could begin seeing Type-C USB devices over the next few months, but considering the lack of backwards compatibility (an adapter is required), and the fact that the existing Micro-USB connector is mandated as the standard mobile phone charging connector by several governments around the world, it may take a little while for Type-C to reach critical mass.

The reversible Type-C connector is roughly the same size as the existing Micro-USB connector at the bottom of your smartphone, but it’s reversible. If that wasn’t enough, there will also be new USB cables that have a Type-C connector at both ends, finally giving consumers the feeling that they are the ones in charge, not some pesky cable. Just take a moment to imagine it: In a few months, you’ll be able to grab a USB cable and just plug it inwithout a care in the world. I’m not entirely sure why we had to wait 15+ years for such a breakthrough, but I’m glad we’re finally there.

USB Hardware Firewall - LockedUSB Adapter

This thumbdrive hacks computers. “BadUSB” exploit makes devices turn “evil”

When creators of the state-sponsored Stuxnet worm used a USB stick to infect air-gapped computers inside Iran’s heavily fortified Natanz nuclear facility, trust in the ubiquitous storage medium suffered a devastating blow. Now, white-hat hackers have devised a feat even more seminal—an exploit that transforms keyboards, Web cams, and other types of USB-connected devices into highly programmable attack platforms that can’t be detected by today’s defenses.

Dubbed BadUSB, the hack reprograms embedded firmware to give USB devices new, covert capabilities. In a demonstration scheduled at next week’s Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas, a USB drive, for instance, will take on the ability to act as a keyboard that surreptitiously types malicious commands into attached computers. A different drive will similarly be reprogrammed to act as a network card that causes connected computers to connect to malicious sites impersonating Google, Facebook or other trusted destinations. The presenters will demonstrate similar hacks that work against Android phones when attached to targeted computers. They say their technique will work on Web cams, keyboards, and most other types of USB-enabled devices.

“Please don’t do anything evil”

“If you put anything into your USB [slot], it extends a lot of trust,” Karsten Nohl, chief scientist at Security Research Labs in Berlin, told Ars. “Whatever it is, there could always be some code running in that device that runs maliciously. Every time anybody connects a USB device to your computer, you fully trust them with your computer. It’s the equivalent of [saying] ‘here’s my computer; I’m going to walk away for 10 minutes. Please don’t do anything evil.”

USB Charger Firewall, Enable Fast Charging Smartphones

USB Charger Firewall allows you to charge your devices Securely and enables Faster Charging On-the-Go

LockedUSB Adapter allows portable devices to fast-charge at their maximum rated current, while keeping the data lines completely isolated and Hackers away from your personal data. LockedUSB adapter has a dedicated controller chip and current limiting power switch. An auto-detect feature monitors USB data line voltage, and automatically provides the correct electrical signatures on the data lines.

Jun. 14, 2014 – ATLANTA — LM Engineering Designs LLC, an Atlanta-based startup, provided just that with their new device called LockedUSB adapter (

It allows any portable device to fast-charge at their maximum rated current, while keeping the data lines completely isolated. To cover production costs, the company successfully raised 150% of their goal, on Kickstarter.

LockedUSB is an innovative, Patent-pending, USB adapter with a dedicated controller chip that allows portable devices to fast-charge at their maximum rated current while keeping the data lines completely secure.

Public charging stations are becoming more and more popular everywhere you go. Unfortunately, Identity Theft, Government surveillance, “rogue” and unstable chargers, are also on the rise. The inspiration behind the product came when the designer searched the internet to find a firewall device, or specialized cable, that would provide the security he was looking for, and to his surprise there was nothing out there that offered secure charging capabilities.  “I wanted to make a simple adapter, which I could use my own device’s cable, and have peace of mind that my personal data and information was secure” said Leonardo Matute, Senior Hardware Designer.  “I have designed a compact USB adapter that completely disconnects the data lines, while simultaneously providing the maximum allowed charging power so I can charge-up quickly and safely”

Users feedback had been incredible:

“Used it in several airports and it passes charge and blocks data. does the job efficiently. I have it attached to the end of my primary charging cable for my phone. Love it.”

“Thanks guys for the well managed project and keeping us up to date with regular updates each step of the way… I like the carry case you included, and it seems well made (used good quality plastics). I agree it is larger than I thought it would be, but that isn’t a deal breaker for me … Main thing is that it stops data transmission!!!  I’m really glad I supported this project. Well managed and your first iteration already looks well made and professional (if a little larger than expected). Very happy supporter ~ thank you!”

LockedUSB is now available through their website at Interested users can receive a LockedUSB Adapter and 3-in-1 Universal Charging Cables. People who depend on their phones can rest assured LockedUSB will keep them safe and provide fast charging.

NSA reportedly planted spyware on electronics equipment – Stay Protected with LockedUSB Adapter

Source: CNET News – Security & Privacy

NSA reportedly planted spyware on electronics equipment

Based on internal NSA documents, Der Spiegel reveals that the spy agency planted backdoors to access computers, hard drives, routers, and other devices from companies such as Cisco, Dell, Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor and Samsung.

A new report from Der Spiegel, based on internal National Security Agency documents, reveals more details about how the spy agency gains access to computers and other electronic devices to plant backdoors and other spyware.

The Office of Tailored Access Operations, or TAO, is described as a “squad of digital plumbers” that deals with hard targets — systems that are not easy to infiltrate. TAO has reportedly been responsible for accessing the protected networks of heads of state worldwide, works with the CIA and FBI to undertake “sensitive missions,” and has penetrated the security of undersea fiber-optic cables. TAO also intercepts deliveries of electronic equipment to plant spyware to gain remote access to the systems once they are delivered and installed.

According to the report, the NSA has planted backdoors to access computers, hard drives, routers, and other devices from companies such as Cisco, Dell, Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor, Samsung, and Huawei. The report describes a 50-page product catalog of tools and techniques that an NSA division called ANT, which stands for Advanced or Access Network Technology, uses to gain access to devices.

This follows a report that the security firm RSA intentionally allowed the NSA to create a backdoor into its encryption tokens.

LockedUSB Adapter prototypes

Update #9 – We are right on Schedule!

I just wanted to send another quick update on the development of LockedUSB Adapter. We just received the Second Alpha Prototype PCB (post-kickstarter) and we are running all the tests necessary to assure that the latest changes we implemented are performing well; not only overtime, but also over temperature, and maximum current loads.

We were also able to reduce the PCB size back to the original dimensions. We have made it a single sided board, which will help us with the over-molding process as well. (See picture below)

Once we have finished all the Design Validation testing, we will be ordering the beta PCB that will be sent to the over-molder manufacturer for the first official run of the Plastic over mold. Soon after that we will be able to ship the Beta units to our Beta Testers. So far everything is running as planned.

Picture below shows our Original Pre-Kickstarter Prototype, next to the First and Second  Alpha PCB’s.

Quick reminder that we have extended our pre-orders for a little longer, share and spread the word.
