Frequently Asked Questions

Will LockedUSB work on Tablets?

Yes. The LockedUSB work with any USB 2.0 compatible device

I‘ve read online that only Apple devices have the necessary proprietary signatures to be able to ’ask’ for a higher current from the laptop USB port (up to 1100mA@5V). Would LockedUSB be able to help here? Can it negotiate a higher current output to allow my Samsung phone to charge faster?

You are 100% right, only apple device can charge at the max 1.2A currenton Apple laptops. Each apple device have an internal chip that communicatewith the main computer and allow the max charging.

LockedUSB simulate these signatures to the Device, but we are unable to do
the same with the host as a result most devices will charge at the maximum
negotiated current than the laptop would allow.

We have tested many Samsung device and they charge to a max of 735mA from
my 2013 Macbook pro. However Apple powers management is very complex and
proprietary, which mean that as soon as the macbook is at high load or
other devices are connected the other USB, this current go as low as 300mA.

With lockedUSB your device will charge faster than if you just connect
your OEM cable to the USB port, however it will not reach the absolute max
current that only apple device can negotiate.

Hope that answer your question, please contact me if have any other
questions.

Will LockedUSB work with iPhone 5 and the Lighting Connector?

Yes. LockedUSB will work with the iPhone 5! In some of the pictures in the campaign, you can see an iPhone 5 being used. LockedUSB can be used in-line with your device manufacture’s cable or you can use the 3-in-1 Universal Charging Cable to charger your iPhone 5 securely and fast.

Can I order Multiples adapter from Kickstarter?

Can I charge two or more devices at the same time with LockedUSB and the 3-in-1 Charger cable

Yes. however we don’t recommend it. You can source as much power as the source charger or USB device can provide. Most computers and Laptops can provide up to 500mA or 900mA for USB 3.0.  We have tested these with various smartphones, tablets, cameras, etc. and they can power two or three devices simultaneously! meaning you can quickly charge two phones at once!

Please note that trying to source more power than that original device can provide could cause damage to the device itself or blow the internal fuse of the LockedUSB.
